The 2018 European Championships kicked off on Sunday 18th February earlier this week at the Dolmen Hotel in Malta. A World rules format pool competition, which brings some of the worlds top World Rules players together to compete in many different competitions with singles and team events being competed for.
Some of our North Easts players ventured over to Malta, strictly for the pool of course.
We had some great success in many of the competitions. Must say a well down to one of our Team mates Matt Brannan who played 4 games to get into the last 32 of the mens singles, only to bow out to Mike King from England.
Over into the under 23 event, and a massive well done to Darlo’s Craig Lauder who got through a tough field to get into the final, only to be pipped to he post by Jack Smithers. Commiserations Craig, your time will come im sure.
In the ladies event, and got to be the performance from the week from Catherine Jones who played absolutely flawless pool to take the title of Ladies European Champion 2018. What a fantastic achievement from one of the north easts, and the uks best ladies players. Well played Cat!
As a country, England took A,B and C mens team titles, the seniors title as well as the ladies team title too, which of course featured the newly crowned European Champion Catherine Jones.
Its safe to say, the North East continues to produce the talent, and this weeks results just goes to show, that they can back it up with a some fantastic results in the European Championships.
Onto the IPA Pool tour in Cardiff for this weekend, and again the North East are well represented again, and we will be looking forward to some great pool.
Once again, massive well done to Catherine Jones and Craig Lauder for your fantastic results this week. Keep up the great work!
